“Innovative architecture,” says architect Silvio Rech, “is what turns us on.” Rech and his wife, Lesley Carstens, met while working at an architecture firm in Johannesburg, and have been pioneers on the South African design scene for more than 25 years. When it came to their own house in Johannesburg, they had all the freedom to do what they please. “With a client, you have to sell it,” Rech says. “Here we could say, ‘Let’s just do it.’” In the main bedroom, the bed is custom, the chaise is by @cassinaofficial, and the ceiling is clad in white oak.
