In these photographs: tourists on the beach in Playa del Carmen; tourists and workers in bars and nightclubs in Cancún’s hotel zone; tourism sector workers on public transportation in Cancún's downtown; Heidi, 29, and her sister Julia try to reassure her baby in their home in Tres Reyes, a shanty town on the outskirts of Cancún and considered one of the poorest and most dangerous areas in the city; and the inside of a government housing development on the outskirts of Cancún.
