I take the 15th each year to reflect and thank the universe. I was given an 8% chance of survival. 2015 put me to the test, when a reckless driver put me in the hospital. Back broken and organs ripped apart. For the first month, I lived with my abdomen sliced open. A large rubber band like bandage, holding me together. They needed to keep the access to my organs open, I had so much internal damage. That they may need to dive back in at any second. The following week, stomach acid that had escaped from my organs, was now freely circulating in my body. Eating away at me, Poisoning me. Another surgery was needed, but this time I awoke before they were done. I’ll never forget that feeling, the scream that emanated from my body. The crystal clear shock of being fully aware, when someone is cutting into you. But you push on. Some parts of 2020 remind me of it. I couldn’t leave the house for months, not because of quarantine. But because I was 46 lbs and unable to stand for more than 5 minutes. I didn’t have to worry about going to the grocery store tho, because I wasn’t allowed to eat or drink, for 118 days. They cut a hole in my hip and feb a tube into my lower intestines. Which a tan liquid was pumped through for nourishment. I was nearly bedridden for a year. And I still have pain everyday. I’m telling you all this because even after all that, I’m endlessly grateful to be here experiencing 2020 with you all. We’re gonna get through this.
