I know many of you have been anxious to hear about Crusoe, but this past week has been so incredibly difficult for us that we needed to do this as a family.

As you know, ever since Crusoe had his gallbladder removed in June, he’s had elevated liver enzymes in a somewhat stable range of 4-7x normal. That was, up until mid December when they doubled to upward of 15x normal. Although, he never showed any sign of being ill.

So, we were faced with our most difficult decision yet - do we opt for the route of “benign neglect” in ignoring Crusoe’s (now escalating) liver enzymes given he’s been feeling fine? Or do we opt for surgery/biopsy, which is the only way to truly know what might be going on, and potentially give us a chance to address it? Neither option was guaranteed anything, and with either decision we would be faced with worry and self doubt.

Ultimately, we decided to do the surgery/biopsy. I can’t tell you how absolutely heartbreaking it is to put him through this again and how many tears we’ve shed the last few days, plus try to cope with the soul-breaking self-doubt as to whether we’re making the right decision or not. One thing I can say, is that the incredible liver expertise, clinical care, and surgical excellency at @cornellvet eased at least a fraction of our worries.

Crusoe’s surgery went well on Friday. They took biopsies, but because of suspicions for potentially something in his bile duct, the surgeon flushed this out. As it turns out, it had a lot of “grit” in it (like sand). So, it was good this was cleared out, but the experts also don’t seem to think this is the “full explanation” as to whatever is going on.

Crusoe has been recovering well and is back with us at our Airbnb in New York. Biopsy results will be reviewed by Cornell. For now, we are just so so thankful that the surgery is done and recovery has been going well.

So, I’ll post an update to our blog or YouTube when we have the biopsy results and ‘hopefully🤞’ some answers to all this. Thank you all again for keeping Crusoe in your thoughts and prayers. I can tell you, it has helped give us comfort to think of all the fans who are wishing on our little star ⭐️.
