For once I had to choose it. I will admit it wasn’t easy, but I’d be foolish to think I was alone. There were weeks when I couldn’t even think about it. I was angry that my escape was taken away, and if it couldn’t be what it normally was, I wanted nothing to do with it. I bottled it up and put it in the back of my brain. But then I found that in my moments of struggle, my instinct was to dance and express what I was feeling. To my relief, I realized that I needed to dance. And I believe that my work will benefit from this transformation of my relationship with dance. I will be the last to make it seem like I’ve lived through this with ease, and that I never questioned my choices and career. I made the choice to repair my love for dance, and I’m glad I did.
