My grandfather would have been so thrilled to see this moment that I’m fortunate enough to witness. Due to my grandfather’s determination in bringing his family to the United States, I’m here and although it’s been a long time since he passed away...I cannot forget our time together in watching my first inauguration. I was “the grandchild” that could not sit still but I was able to (with a little help from his secret chocolate stash he hides) watch and learn from his many stories. So grandpa...if you’re looking down, this post is to tell you I never forgot how proud you were to be in this country (...and never forgot you used to quiz me on the presidents either 😅). I cannot be anymore prouder than to be your granddaughter. The granddaughter of an immigrant man wanting a future for his family. I know you & grandma were able to visit Washington DC but never made it to see the Statue of Liberty. So, I drew her waving the American flag for you on this day that means so much to you. Thank you for your courage in venturing into this country...instilling in me strength, perseverance and to walk in gratitude each and every day.
