SPELLさんのインスタグラム写真 - (SPELLInstagram)「Tomorrow is a public holiday in Australia. It’s hard to believe now that when we were younger, waving an Australian flag on January 26 seemed normal. But now we realise this is not a day to celebrate - there has been an enduring and undeniable shift on the perspective of what this date really means to us as a nation. Australia is one of the only countries in the world that has a public holiday for celebration on the date that represents the of the invasion of their country. For our First Nations people, this date may be a day of mourning, and for all Australians it may be a day where we call for justice and acknowledge the true history and lived experiences of our First Nation Communities. At Spell we have only just begun our reconciliation action plan (RAP) but have already learned so much over the past half year. As part of the many actions we are taking toward reconciliation, we’ve offered our team, if they so wish, the option to work as normal tomorrow, and switch out their public holiday for May 26th on National Sorry Day. Some are choosing this option, others are choosing to attend Survival Day protests, and others to spend quiet moments of reflection with their families - but we wanted to make this an option in the hope that next year the government will #changethedate and the governance of policies that affect First Nations people. We join in the chorus of Australian voices calling for a date which is more inclusive so we can celebrate the land we are lucky enough to walk upon, along side the traditional custodians of that land.
