About 12 years ago I had the privilege to perform this iconic “Ain’t I a Woman” speech by Sojourner Truth. Her words from 1851 came through me and I was enamored by her humor, her wisdom, her strength and her struggle. TODAY - we need these words more than ever. Yes, we’ve just elected the FIRST Black woman Vice President - but there is still work to do. Black women carry the weight of this democracy - whether it’s turning out in record numbers to vote or suffering exponentially more from the physical and financial struggles induced by Covid.

My hope for the future is that we meet this moment and work towards real and true equity. With Black women and FOR Black women. I want to work for a future that would make Sojourner Truth proud. #PeoplesInauguration @thepeoplesinauguration
