Today is #WorldLeprosyDay.
📸 The Queen visiting the Itu leprosy settlement in Nigeria in 1957, as Patron of @LepraUK.
@LepraUK works directly with communities to find, treat and rehabilitate people with leprosy and has continued providing vital aid during the pandemic.
Her Majesty has been Patron of @LepraUK since 1952, after succeeding her father, King George VI, who was Patron of the charity from its foundation in 1924.
This #WorldLeprosyDay, as Vice-President of @LepraUK, The Duke of Gloucester, The Queen’s cousin, has paid tribute to the charity’s tireless work in Bangladesh, India, Mozambique and Zimbabwe:
“I wish to commend you - the staff and volunteers of @LepraUK - for carrying out your work with dedication and enthusiasm.”
