Chim’s career spanned genres and styles. His humanistic approach, which yielded important work documenting conflicts and their aftermath, was complementary to his unassuming personality, which quickly led him to become the favored photographer of many celebrities.

Carole Naggar, Chim's biographer said: “His unobtrusive manner and sense of humour, his ability to listen, helped in the creation of portraits that went beyond the usual ‘glamour shots’, conveying an air of relaxed intimacy.”
