Goodfellas, Jaws, Lord of the Rings & more popular films included this “vertigo” sensation ... for example when a character has a realization that makes them temporarily detach from reality 🤯

A dolly zoom is an in-camera effect where you “dolly” towards or away from a subject while zooming in the opposite direction. It creates somewhat of a warp and raises a set of emotions in a viewer, when properly executed 😏 ⁣

You can achieve this effect by slowly moving back from the subject, while zooming in on it. ⁣
⁣
Or you can move towards the subject, while zooming out. The key is to hold super steady. ⁣
⁣
By using a gimbal like a @djiglobal Osmo, you can achieve maximum smoothness. This example is directly from an iPhone (no gimbal). ⁣
