Thanks, Ellie, for passing the mic! My work [swipe] is where ocean and climate and justice and joy intersect. This includes co-editing the @allwecansave anthology, co-authoring the Blue New Deal, writing opeds, co-hosting the podcast @how2saveaplanet, co-founding @urbanoceanlab, a think tank for the future of coastal cities, and generally making sure we don’t forget about the ocean when we create climate policy, . More about all my projects and links to my writing are at: ayanaelizabeth.com People often ask me “How can I help with climate issues?” If you are looking to get more involved, YAY! And here’s my advice: Think of it like a Venn diagram, with 3 overlapping circles. One circle is what are you good at – the skills, resources, and magic can you offer? (art? science? communications? design? policy? protest? engineering?) Another circle is the work that needs doing – the climate solutions we need to push forward (from renewable energy to regenerative agriculture). And the third is what brings you joy – what gets you out of bed in the morning. This is the work of our lifetimes, and there’s no reason it has to be miserable! Consider how you can be at the epicenter of that Venn diagram. And think bigger than yourself – it’s not about what you can do as an individual, obsessing only about minimizing your own carbon footprint and waste. It’s about what we can do *together* to transform our energy, transportation, agriculture, buildings, manufacturing to live more gently on this magnificent planet.
