Water cannons, tear gas and warning shots were fired by police to break up crowds across the country on Tuesday as authorities cracked down on demonstrations that swelled in the wake of the Feb. 1 coup, @apnews reports. The country’s fragile push for democracy has always centered around Aung San Suu Kyi's immense popularity, writes Amy Gunia. Now that the military has Myanmar’s elected civilian leader in detention again, it’s unclear whether anyone else is capable of uniting resistance to the generals, who have imposed a year of emergency rule.
