This morning we launched our latest collaboration with New Balance, the 992 “From Away.” We expected the shoe to do well, so we ordered extra inventory. We also kept an eye on online chatter, and as we saw the anticipation build, we took extra steps to make sure our customers would have every chance to purchase. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, and the shoe sold out within minutes — before many of you were even able to open your launch emails and before we were able to send a reminder post on our social platforms. What we saw this morning went far beyond that. Despite all precautions, we believe some professional resellers got the link to purchase early and grabbed a percentage of the sneakers before customers, like you could place their order. That’s not good. That’s not fair. That’s not me. I’d like to apologize to anyone who missed out on a sneaker they truly wanted. We have several exciting collaborations coming up, and we are committed to taking the steps necessary to ensure that everyone gets a fair shot at making a purchase in the future.
