the fact that Britney Spears is under a conservatorship when she is so capable, touring and performing and making millions of dollars, is a result of our culture that is highly judgmental towards women who don’t fit into the tiny societal mold that they’ve been forced into. a conservatorship is supposed to protect and keep the conservatee in mind; however, Britney has always been vocal to the courts that the one person she absolutely did not want as conservator was her father. this was completely ignored. she has since asked the courts to remove her father as conservator and stated that he scares her. her father has been physically violent with her children. the actual witch hunt lead by the media as america tried to determine whether she was a virgin or a slut is so representative of the way women and girls of my generation were/are viewed and spoken about in the environment I grew up in. the media ripped her to shreds to fabricate a story of her insanity while simultaneously blaming her for it, while in reality their hostile invasion of her life directly fueled Britney’s father jamie’s ability to twist a narrative in which he could take ownership over his daughter’s lucrative life. he was never present in her life until this happened and there was money to be made. now, not only does Britney pay for her own lawyers (whom she was not allowed to choose), but because of the nature of the estate conservatorship (which her father’s lawyers have stated they look at like a business deal) she also must pay her father and for his lawyers. this man continues to push questioning his daughter’s sanity in order to keep feeding off her bank accounts. Britney Spears, an actual icon who took over the music industry as a teenager, has been stripped of agency over her own life - yet she has been working and touring nonstop since the beginning of the conservatorship, meaning she is completely functional enough to not need a conservatorship in the first place. for more information @ニューヨーク・タイムズ has released a documentary on hulu titled “Framing Britney” #freebritney
