From top to bottom: •”Beyond the Gender Binary” by Alok Vaid-Menon @alokvmenon - A mix of hard facts and personal narrative, I think this book can be both affirming for non binary/gnc folks and also act as a roadmap for cis folks who need some guidance in the right direction (I’ve sent out a few copies as gifts!). •”I’m Afraid of Men” by Vivek Shraya @vivekshraya - I feel like everyone should read this book. The strict enforcement of what we have deemed as “masculinity” hurts us all, and this book, written from the perspective of a trans woman, imagines a world of freedom beyond that. •”The Subtweet” by @vivekshraya - One of my all time favourite books. An examination of what it means to make art in the age of social media, how women are pitted against each other, and an intricate look into friendship and all its messiness that is usually only reserved for romantic relationships. It also comes with its own soundtrack (I love “Every Song” so much) which created a super immersive experience. •”Son of a Trickster” by #EdenRobinson - I just picked this up and I’m so excited to dive in. I was a huge fan of the show @trickstercbc and was disappointed when it was cancelled, but I’m stoked to read what happens in the trilogy. •”Women Talking” by #MiriamToews - About a group of Mennonite women deciding whether or not to run away after experiencing sexual abuse at the hands of the men in their colony. I have a complicated relationship to my Mennonite roots, and it’s patriarchal structure has taken a lot of work to unlearn, so I relate deeply to Towes’ work and this book was no exception. Read it in 24 hours. “Parable of the Sower” by #OctaviaEButler - A speculative fiction book written in 1993 about the 2020’s where the world is ravaged by climate change, corporate greed, severe wealth gaps and an upcoming election where one of the candidates wants to colonize Mars. Fucking scary how accurate Butler is here. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series. (continued in the comments)」2月12日 2時06分 - baumanelise
