Today I along with some very vocal Asian-American friends in fashion are taking a collective stand against the tidal wave of violent hate crimes against Asian Americans, concentrated but not limited to the Bay Area in recent months.
But beyond what is going on in the US, I also wanted to take this opportunity to say (whilst not being able to look you in the eye because I did find it quite difficult) some thoughts about the more latent and insidious side to anti-Asian sentiment that I’ve personally experienced - all my life but also anecdotally speaking, incrementally since the beginning of the pandemic.

It’s the realisation that this continued silence on the subject only contributes to the problem. Choking down on it, brushing it off, shirking away from answering back - these have been the reactions of myself, my family and my friends. But it’s this muted response and shunning of help that encourages these crimes to proliferate.
I’m posting the IGTV here where my thoughts can’t really be summed up in a neat graphic.

I’ll be following up with a group graphic summing up what has been going on, that I encourage EVERYONE - Asian or not - to share and raise awareness to these crimes, as well as resources for volunteering and donating where possible and just KNOW this goes on.
