We’re not having our traditional Mardi Gras celebrations because of the pandemic. The Flaming Flagettes are keeping the spirit a live through making Mars Gras videos. The Flaming Flagettes are a drag flag team that have been performing every Mardi Gras since 2016. The group mother's are Jacob Reptile and Chris Staudinger. Jacob explains "After my house fire in 2016 I moved in With Chris Staudinger (our other krewe motha) and told him About an idea of creating an all drag flag group, so we gathered up a bunch of queeridos and after the first meeting we decided we were truly the Flaming Flagettes, an all drag flag team and we performed for the first time at the Southern Decadence parade 2016, with about a dozen people. Every parade worthy holiday we have performed since! Except Halloween. I used to march in the 9th Ward Marching Band as a ribbon dancer. We used to march the Endymion Saturday through the neighborhood. We (9th ward Marching Band) don’t march anymore really so the flagettes filled the hole that it created in the neighborhood. Every Mardi Gras we usually perform at a Carnival Ball and the Saturday before Tuesday we choregraph a few songs and dance down the streets welcoming other krewes like Krewe De Nim and Spirit Sticks to join us. And the whole neighborhood comes out to dance with us and basically bar crawl the gay bars throught the Marigny and French Quarter. But as of Covid-19, we started making music videos instead of doing parades. We dont want to promote gatherings or lead to anyone being unsafe so we release the video the same time we would be marching to help brighten peoples day.
