His journey started after JoJo shared a video about his experience growing up in a children’s residential care home.⁣ ⁣ “I was alone, and I wanted to connect with someone to see if anybody else out there was going through what I was going through,” says 21-year-old JoJo. “From that video, I was able to create a family of care leavers and current care residents.” He continues to work with the care community and also advocates for plus-sized men of color through his Instagram account @plussizemenmatter.⁣ ⁣ “My work celebrates men of all shapes and sizes to boost their body confidence and empower. Seeing people connect and interact and message one another is so special. And it shows how crucially the space that I’ve created was needed. Sometimes the hyper-masculinity in men affects us to not talk about real deep issues such as mental health and embrace ourselves.⁣ ⁣ My work seeks to challenge that stigma with an open, honest conversation with males.
