Tragically, this unique animal remains the world’s most trafficked mammal. The demand for pangolins is mostly from China and Vietnam, where #pangolin scales are used in traditional medicine and pangolin flesh is considered an expensive and exclusive delicacy. In Vietnam and China, pangolins are illegally offered at restaurants catering to wealthy patrons who want to eat rare and endangered wildlife. There is no evidence to support claims regarding any medicinal properties of pangolin scales or any other part of the pangolin. It’s certainly worth noting that Chinese researchers have established that Pangolin carry viruses that are closely related to nCOV-2019, as in the Covid-19 virus, yet another example of how exploiting endangered wildlife for illegal gain is a terrible idea.
