Ribbs who broke barriers and busted stereotypes on his journey to become one of the most accomplished Black drivers in motorsport history.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ A California native, Willy was obsessed with speed from a young age and started his career racing open-wheel cars in Europe during the mid 1970s. After returning to the US Willy continued to race open wheel cars in the Formula Atlantic Series and became a fierce competitor in both the SCCATrans Am and IMSA GT Series during the 1980s.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Willy also competed in NASCAR at several different points in his career, and raced in the top level of American open wheel racing becoming the first Black driver to qualify for the legendaryIndianapolis 500 in 1991 and again in 1993.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ With tons of talent, an ability to race just about anything with wheels, and a pull-no-punches personality Willy T.
