Photos by @jasperdoest / For a little over a week, winter had taken ahold of The Netherlands–turning its coasts into an arctic landscape. A sudden increase of air temperature in the stratosphere in mid-January disrupted the polar vortex, resulting in extremely low temperatures in mid-February on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. While the U.S. is still under winter's spell, the cold quickly lost its grip in the Netherlands: only a week later temperatures are rising as high as 62°F (16°C).
