In this interview, the owner, Nagisa Kaneko, talks about how her desire to create a new nail culture by linking it to fashion fuelled her desire to open the salon. "Going back 10+ years ago, there were a lot of nail salons that focused on modest designs and 'gyaru' designs, weren't there? I always felt that nails and fashion were closely related to each other, so thinking outside the box of the typical image of someone that likes to do their nails, I opened DISCO as a way to link together that peoples' nails to their fashion styles." It's these thoughts and feelings that Kaneko holds that gives creative rise to the many designs DISCO creates for customers that both align with each of their looks while also making use of their individualities. "We suggest designs to customers that draw out both a their fashion style and their inner-self. We listen to their requests while talking about how they feel that day, or what they'd like to wear during the current season. This helps me to come up with a source for a design that fits with what the customer desires. I'm always looking at many different sources such as photos of architecture, illustrations, and so on, which I can use as inspiration to create lots of different styles." Kaneko went with a clear yellow frame for this shoot. "I don't normally wear glasses, but I wear a lot of sunglasses, so this pair feels really refreshing.
