For one furious round, the city’s ubiquitous orchestra of sirens, dirt bike convoys, and Water Ice trucks, will be quietened as onlookers stare with the attention of devoted Mass-goers. It’s silent as a confessional; save for the landing of blows and the bold encouragement of over-eager coaches. In that small ring, punches and counterpunches serve as counter-intuitive ways to heal those who were on the verge of being broken, those with homes in disarray, and those who live in comfort; but nevertheless, need an escape. Outside, the news laments a pandemic. But here, among the fighters, the ring sings of peace.
