Over the years, I have had the fortune of working as a musician in Japan. However, this pandemic made me think of how I want to lead a career from this point onward. And I had some good time to think about it.

It probably was always in my heart but I hadn't really put it out there. To simply lay it out, "I want to be free". Free as a true international Jazz man who roots himself in Japan. I want to inspire others through my journeys, challenges and experiences. I want to engage and interact with cultures and musicians of any kind. At the end, that to me is what Jazz is all about.

Therefore, the essence of these new images had to portray my new objective and mission. A Jazz Samurai bound for the world.

デビューから20年を主に日本で活動してきました。いま、このタイミングで立ち止まって、残された時間でどの様な活動をして行きたいか... コロナ禍に考える時間が多くありました。

これまでもずっと心にあって、あまり声に出して言ってこなかったこと。それは日本人としてのアイデンティティを持った、真の国際的なアーティストとして自由になりたいということ。ニューヨークで収録されたデビュー・アルバム、それから様々な海外経験をして、一昨年は全編フランスで収録をした"TOKU in Paris"で感じたあの感覚、あの体験。ジャズミュージシャンとしてより高みを目指し、日本に、故郷にジャズの素晴らしさを伝えていきたい。さらにそう強く思うに至りました。

今回の旅で捉えたかったものは、世界へ伝えたいアーティストTOKUのイメージ。日本人として世界に挑むジャズミュージシャンの姿です。
