It may be a little-known fact but in Japan, ceramics culture is an industry in and of itself with a tremendous scale comparable to those of manga and anime. Regardless of whether the economy is good or bad, it permeates our lives in every conceivable form; the general public acquires ceramic works and enjoys them. For the past 20 years or so, I have been collecting ceramics and have now come to possess expert-level knowledge. Along with knowledge, I have amassed around 30,000 works as well. Until now, I have been discovering, nurturing, and presenting ceramic artists through Kaikai Kiki Gallery @kaikaikikigallery , but the new project I am starting here is about secondary sales and purchasing of ceramic works. I have to ask myself why I still need to acquire more works at this point, but the more you learn about your collection, the more you need to establish each artist’s taxonomic tree, if you will. So you may realize that you don’t own any works of an artist already in your collection from right after their debut, or you may want an object they made outside of their regular practice. Since there aren’t stores that specialize in such secondary trades, I decided to present it as a concept at this art fair, even though I don’t yet have a store. It’s really been fun and exciting. And the works are selling well. Yesterday, I also gave a talk and really enjoyed myself. @tonari_no_totoya」6月7日 13時12分 - takashipom
