TL;DR - HAMMY IS DOING WELL AND THE PROGNOSIS IS GOOD. Going back about 6 months ago Ham started to have some unknown health issues. It looked like he was having balance problems - he would randomly wobble and occasionally tip over. It would only last a few seconds and he was normal right after, but it was very scary. We had him checked out and many tests done and they couldn’t figure it out. Fast forward a couple of months and he had one of these episodes while sitting on my lap. It was at that point I felt his whole body seize up. That’s when I realized it was most likely a seizure and not a balance issue. He only appeared to lose his balance because he was having a short seizure. He then started having clusters of them (5 in one night) and we went to the ER. He once again had many tests done over the course of a couple of weeks - MRI, bloodwork, spinal tap etc. They showed that everything was normal - which is great! (No tumors, lesions, toxicity etc), but that leaves us with his diagnosis. The doctors feel that he most likely has idiopathic epilepsy. What that means is he is prone to seizures and there’s no real known cause. Again, the prognosis for this is good and he is on meds to control the seizures. The great news is we have not seen him have a single seizure since he started the meds. We are so happy and relieved that Hammy has been doing well and things are looking up.
