At 16 years old, Maya was told there was no chance of her ever making it into a professional ballet school, let alone making it as a professional ballet dancer, with the level of technique, and the body and flexibility she had at the time.

She had been dancing since the age of 3 but only recreationally (as a hobby), at a part time ballet school in Hong Kong. It wasn’t until the age of 16 that she decided she wanted to become a professional.

From the moment she decided ballet was her dream, and was determined to go pro, within just one year of extremely focused and intentional training (that she self taught her way through alongside her part time training), she was accepted into the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Russia. Now she is teaching and mentoring students @onlineballetacademy 🌸
