DRESS LIKE IT’S 1737: Rococo Era 🇫🇷
The impactful Rococo period, whilst relatively short-lived, was defined by artists like François Boucher, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, and later, Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun.
💭 The muses portrayed were often celebrities of the day - Madame de Pompadour, Marie Antoinette, and other various various mistresses to the elite, captured in a boisterous, ostentatious, whimsical, and sometimes erotic fashion.
👑 It had a distinct colour palette, with rich jewel tones, and ladies were painted wearing courtly attire, with bright pink blushed cheeks, over-paled skin, and decadent powdered heads of curls.
💐 Nestled between the Baroque and Neoclassical styles, it was a trend that ricocheted throughout Western Europe in the 18th Century, and the contrasts from artifice and excess to simplicity and traditionalism are one we see continuing even today within our cultural trend cycle.
