I have an intense fear of death. (Glennon is convinced it’s because I’ll have FOMO from beyond.)

But it’s not just my fear of missing out, it’s also the fear of the unknown, what I learned about hell (and how, for being gay, I was going there).

Because it’s so hard for me to think about, I was honestly sort of dreading today’s conversation on We Can Do Hard Things with death doula Alua Arthur.

Shockingly, it was one of the most joyful, hilarious conversations we’ve had yet. And it turns out that what we need to know about death tells us just as much about what we need to know about life.

I love Alua’s deathbed test, and I can’t stop thinking about her question: “What must I do to be at peace with myself so that I may live presently and die gracefully?”
