Many thanks to everyone for thoughtfully commenting on my last post. It means you had to stop scrolling, take the time to read what I wrote and then formulate and write a response to it. You had to pay attention. I want you to know how I appreciate what is these days a valuable commodity. Thoughtful comments like those here and on my blog multiply what one can get out of a post. My apologies for responding the way I don’t want you to, with a quick tap on a heart but once the comments go over a hundred my time is better spent by putting thought into what I might want to say here. Or taking a photo that incites. Know I read every one.

This is why I ask for your thoughts about what content, what issues to discuss here. Not because I want to please you or because I don’t have a compass for myself but rather in my experience the best ideas come from collaborative enquiry. So I thank you for your confidence in my inner compass and your suggestions of what would engage you.

I get up at 5:00 AM these days before my grandson comes, to study the form of the essay. My preference is this shorter form of writing. So I read essays and pull out the phrases that take my breath away, that smack me hard with an insight. I write them in a brown craft paper covered journal and think about what the writer did to amaze me.

A quote by Greg Jackson, in an essay written for Harper’s says, “What distinguishes art (and knowledge) from entertainment (infotainment) is that art asks something of it’s audience and it’s form serves the artwork.” So in my own small way I try to interfere on this platform by asking something from you, something more than an emoji or a heart and because you are who you are, I often receive. In return I ask for your suggestions in the spirit of asking something from me.
I am exhausted by being stimulated without a demand for an action in return. It has become boring. I get numb and at my age I can’t afford to spend my days that way.

So I hope you’ll share a line, a thought or an image that took your breath away, that demanded a response, that made you remember you are alive.
