Food allergies can be life threatening 3. Please don’t EVER make light of someone’s allergies (or roll your eyes about them) 4. 100,000 bonus points to anyone who learns to use epinephrine 👏 We made it 11 years without ever having to use her epi, but last night that changed. I always thought that I’d be too panicked to administer it, but nope. I gave her that shot of super soldier serum without an ounce of hesitation 💪 and then we hightailed it to the ER. Thankful for the late shift crew, who took great care of her ❤️ Now for some answers to the immediate questions: 1. She’s allergic to peanuts and all tree nuts (except coconut) 2. She ate cinnamon bread that did not have peanuts or tree nuts listed as ingredients. Allergens highlighted were: wheat, soy, milk. Label did state “Made in a bakery that may also use egg, tree nuts, sesame” 3. It was a late Friday night snack she opted for while watching tv and texting with friends 4. Within a few minutes, her tongue felt tingly. And then her throat started tightening/swelling 5. She rushed to our bedroom (we had gone to bed about 20 minutes earlier) flipped on our light and yelled “you need to give me my epi” 6. We JUST had her epi refilled 8 days earlier (even though the previous expired months ago) 7. Her epi was the Auvi-Q brand and it is SO simple to use! (thankful that we’ve always practiced with the included trainers 🙌🏼) 8. We spent a few hours at the ER, they did an EKG and monitored her heart as the epi wore off. She was given Benadryl and a dose of steroids I’ve read too many stories about tragedies when epi wasn’t given, or wasn’t given soon enough. I didn’t question her when she said she needed the epi. I didn’t go looking for the bread to check the label. I didn’t offer her Benadryl first. She knew what she needed, because she listened to her body. And she told us. Thankful for all the families who have shared their stories over the years - because of those, we took swift action and our girl is home resting today ❤️ #foodallergies」12月18日 2時46分
