アマンダウェイクリーさんのインスタグラム写真 - (アマンダウェイクリーInstagram)「Mothers Day is a complex day for me... yes, I am lucky enough to have an incredible mother who loves me unconditionally with warmth and love, and in her 90th year she still, endearingly, mother’s me… It’s a privilege to be this wonderful woman’s daughter… and I love nothing more than loving her, making sure she feels cared for, nurtured and protected especially as my father and one of my brother’s are no longer around… But I wont have a loving daughter, or son for that matter, to do the same for me … I am not looking for sympathy just providing a statement of fact… I have never had children…possibly because I was too busy creating and building a business…possibly because I was never with the right partner at the right time…possibly because I didn’t prioritise it …the end result is the same. You would be amazed how often I am asked why don’t I have children? …a question I find quite invasive. In my opinion children are a gift not a God given right… a gift not bestowed on everyone for many different and at times, deeply personal or complicated reasons. In my humble opinion not everyone is equipped to be a parent… I am not sure I was, but that doesn’t stop me having a truly special relationship with my niece and nephews, I love them viscerally, as the family they are. Am I at peace with my decision not to have children? 98% of the time I would say I am … however, I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t have moments of wondering “what if”… but I also believe there is no nirvana… you have children and it’s joyous but possibly not perfect… I don’t have children and I lead a joyous, full and fulfilling life, albeit without the nuclear family element … so not perfect but pretty damn good.
