Over the course of our 46 year friendship, we had the joy of collaborating on two songs from my “For Love of Ivy” soundtrack in 1968, & getting to deliver her poem “Pulse of the Morning” during the Clinton Inaugural in 1992. I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again…Maya’s ability to channel the deep feelings of humanity will never be matched, & she possessed the unique ability to construct sentences when we couldn’t even find words. She used to teasingly say to me, “Darling, let’s have ‘lurnch’,” & man I’ll always be ready. I miss her deeply, but am honored to hold on to the presence of her words.
