Brandon plays the trumpet in his band Upendo, which means love in Swahili. “This music is vulnerability. It’s how can we make this present moment with the things that we were given. Nothing else.” His music has deep roots in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. “You can’t learn this music from in the class or from a teacher. This music is in the streets. This music is in the blood, sweat and tears.” And it’s in everyone who’s left their mark on him. “I want to honor those who came before me with everything that I do.
