My jacket was made by designer Supriti Chatterjee from her graduate design collection at the @ESEDSSchoolofDesign in Kolkata, India. It is the first International design school in India to address the urgency of integrating ethical design processes and the theme of sustainable design into its curriculum. Supriti Chatterjee comes from a humble background from Sreerampore, West Bengal where her father works in a shoe factory. Her work is a tribute to the legendary Bengali comic artist, writer and illustrator Narayan Debnath who passed away in 2022. He had created the comic strips like Bantul the great, Handa Bhonda and Nonte Phonte. What do I have to offer this experience? How can I leave India having had given, and not just received? So I asked you to help find me a young fashion student in India, from a small town. You suggested the Eseds fashion school in Kolkata, where you are from… I wanted to showcase someone who could be recognized for their work and creativity. And you found her… This.
