Kasing is a charismatic figure in the sofubi (soft vinyl figure) world. When Shuichi Miyawaki @sennmusann of Kaiyodo @kaiyodo_pr told me about the momentum in the sofubi industry, I contacted the artist and asked him to start showing at our gallery. Though he is a sofubi designer first and foremost, when he exhibited his drawings when presenting his sofubi figures, many people wanted to acquire them. He gradually gained confidence and made some paintings as well, which were also well received. Yet he was not confident enough to become an artist. That was the opportune timing at which I got to approach him. I have frequent meetings with Howard Lee @howard_how2work @how2workhk , who manages the artist, and we work together to explore a narrative that will create a reaison-d'etre for the artist, contemplating what kind of approach might fit into the context of contemporary art. In the end, however, the crucial element for success is the artist's vitality. If he doesn’t keep generating works, there is nothing we can do to help.
