Ralph was picking up his younger twin brothers and mistakenly went to the wrong house. Ralph has been released from the hospital. The shooter was released without charge.⁠ ⁠ Missouri has a Shoot First law—also known as a Stand Your Ground law—that emboldens people to shoot to kill and claim self defense, even when they can safely walk away. These laws create a vigilante gun culture that has too often been used to let white people get away with killing Black people based on a perceived threat.⁠ ⁠ Black children and teens are 13 times more likely than white children and teens to be hospitalized for a gun injury, and five times more likely to be killed with a gun. Every child in America deserves to grow up without having to fear being shot—especially for just existing in their skin. ⁠ ⁠ We are holding Ralph and his loved ones in our hearts as he recovers.
