‘Pumpkin’ (1993) by Yayoi Kusama celebrates her signature motif, the pumpkin. Rendered in the artist’s distinctive yellow and black palette and famous polka dots, Kusama’s ‘Pumpkin’ (1993) represents a sense of stability, modesty, and comfort.

For decades, Kusama’s pumpkin motif reoccurs across her various forms of artistic media, most notably in sculpture and her Infinity Rooms. Created during a pivotal time in the artists career, ‘Pumpkin’ (1993) was created the same year Kusama represented Japan at the 45th Venice Biennale as the first single artist show ever mounted in the Japanese pavilion.

‘Pumpkin’ (1993) will be offered in our upcoming 21st Century Evening Sale on 15 May.
