In the oil painting, Tansey uses painterly texture to enlarge and reinterpret an image from the graphite and oil sketch "Yosemite," pictured here. To produce this earlier work, he applied crumpled newsprint to a wet surface, generating an organic design analogous to the “upside-down” condition of contemporary global culture.
