The Former Home of the Yoshihara Family in Okawa was once the residence of the Yoshihara Family, who served as leaders in the region during the Edo period (1603-1868).
Built around 200 years ago, it features large-scale, elaborate decorations, and is recognized as an Important Cultural Property of Japan owing to its immense beauty.✨
One of the highlights is its splendid entrance, from which only high-ranking individuals, like the lords of the Yanagawa domain, could enter through.😲
On top of that, there is a room with an earthen floor (doma), where tools once used by the residents are displayed, as well as gorgeous peach and fan-shaped decorations called “kugikakushi,” used to hide the nails in wooden boards. Even the smallest details flaunt intricate designs, and the house is full of things to see!😊
