With just a suitcase and a violin, Joseph Wang emigrated from Taiwan to California in 1960 to study architecture. Through hard work and perseverance, he made a life for himself. While visiting Chicago, he went on a blind date with a teacher named June, the daughter of diplomats. She turned out to be the love of his life. They were in a long-distance relationship before getting married in 1965. In 1999, June passed away. Almost 90 years old, Joe continues to find ways to memorialize June's legacy through park bench dedications, high school scholarships and more.
Watch the video to hear more about their beautiful story of resilience and love from their daughter Xiao-Wei Wang and two of their eight grandkids, Maxwell and Alexa Feng.
