The trailer for “Oscillators”.

Realizing I never posted it on my main feed!

The @synth_history podcast is a limited narrative podcast series produced by yours truly. I also research, write, record, edit, sound design and score each episode myself.

With a run-time of 53 minutes, ‘Oscillators’ was made over the course of a year and I’m really proud of it.

Originally it was only going to cover VCOs (Voltage Controlled Oscillators), but after researching the subject for an extended period of time I became fascinated by how oscillators and oscillations are found everywhere in our universe. The oscillations of black holes, electromagnetic fields and sound itself shape the dynamics of our world. Everything in our universe is constantly in motion. Thanks to a combination of varying oscillations, you’re able to see colors, hear music, can keep track of time.

The episode explores what it means to oscillate - a fundamental concept in physics and engineering, and it’s the first one to include special guests. When I was reading about oscillations in space, I knew I had to call up @averagecabbage’s brother Joel Green, an astrophysicist and instrument scientist at the Space Telescope Science Institute (@space_telescopes); when I was researching quartz crystal oscillations, I contacted an old friend, Max Katz - who is now a physicist and legislative fellow in the U.S. Senate (we went to the same high school). For VCOs of course, I reached out to Steve Dunnington, engineer and VP of product development at none other than Moog Music (@moogsynthesizers).

Needless to say, this episode in particular means a lot to me (of course, they all do - each one is like making an entire album), and I hope if you haven’t listened to it yet, you will!🔭🎛️🪐
