Walking through Alvar and Aino Aalto’s Paimio Sanitorium, one encounters glowing colours at every turn. Set amidst pine forests outside the small town of Paimio in southwest Finland this modernist icon, which opened in 1933, was conceived as a ‘medical instrument’ dedicated to the care of tuberculosis patients.
To mark the 90th anniversary of Paimio Sanatorium, the interior colour schemes of the Artek Helsinki shop were influenced by those used in the Sanatorium. The shop interiors suggest inspiring ideas for using colour to create soothing and energising palettes for home interiors.
The Paimio Colours summer exhibition at @artekhelsinki opens today and closes on 2.9.2023.
