The oceans of the world hold such a power, mystery and beauty, and yet are so unknown to us. If we spent our lives below water instead of above, I am sure our understanding of its life would deepen and our actions therefore reflect that knowing. Still today, being the creatures of the land that we are, we do hold enough information to change our behaviours and mindsets 💙🐋💙 I came along on this journey with the @last_whaling_station about a year ago. The aim was to deepen my understanding of why our nation still supports this act of killing fin whales. In that time I have learned a lot 🌱 🌍 Up till now, many people have tirelessly fought for our nature and the whales, including our one and only force of nature @bjork ☄️, who yet again fights alongside us. And other supporters, from all over the world, have joined the movement like @prideofgypsies 🧜🏼‍♂️. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 I, like most Icelanders, come from a family and nation of people, who have relied on the sea as their main food source. And so we appreciate its abundance and life 🐟🐠 But this act we don’t need. It doesn’t feed our people, it isn’t good for our health, it isn’t good for our planet, or our country’s reputation, and last but not least, it isn’t good for the whales 🐋 It simply isn’t good for anyone. Even the one company that still kills whales in Iceland. Because we all share this place 🌍 It is hard sometimes to change, especially quickly, but it is time.
