Now Open… It’s Pablo-matic: Picasso According to Hannah Gadsby.

“Picasso said, ‘You can have all the perspectives at once!’ What a hero. But tell me, are any of those perspectives a woman’s? Well, then I’m not interested.” —@hannah_gadsby

Since his death in 1973, feminist artists, curators, and art historians have led the movement to expand and rewrite the canon and question the dominant narratives of modernism. In their 2018 performance Nanette, comedian Hannah Gadsby considered the (un)contested adulation of complex cultural figures such as Picasso. Soon after, Gadsby began working closely with our curators to create an exhibition that recontextualizes Picasso’s life and work by considering it alongside selections by twentieth- and twenty-first-century women artists.

#Pablomatic is both an acknowledgement of, and an opportunity to reexamine a critical figure in art and cultural history 50 years after his death. And it’s funny.

Join the conversation through September 24.
