This group of remote, atoll-like reefs lies in the Timor Sea, more than 300 kilometers (185 mi) off the coast of Western Australia, on the edge of the continental shelf. The region is an important migration corridor for endangered cetaceans, but it's also under potential threat from proposed fossil fuel exploration that would subject it to seismic blasting, pipe laying, and gas drilling.
