Elevation (ft): 13,800ft to 13,000ft Distance: 7 km Hiking Time: 6-8 hours Habitat: Semi Desert Full Board at Shira From the Shira Plateau, we continued to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continued, our direction changed to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower where we stopped for a quick lunch, we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 16,000ft. We continued down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 13,000ft. There, camp was set up, we rested and enjoyed an incredible dinner the staff prepared, and stayed overnight. Although we ended the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day was very important for acclimatization and helped our bodies prepare for summit day 🏔️ 🏔️ The support and hospitality that the guides and porters from @kilimanjaro_nature_tours gave us made it possible to do this hike ❤️.
