“I’m a gatherer of crap,” smiles Alison Lloyd, founder of @ally_capellino. “I pick up stuff that I can’t bear the thought of being thrown away.” From yellow-tinted trinkets to arty postcards, potted house plants to personal paintings, Alison’s home is overflowing with collectibles. “I’ve got an emotional attachment to everything,” she says.

Having founded Ally Capellino in east London in 1980, Alison has spent more than four decades building a loyal legion of fans with her pocketed waxed-cotton bags – but, perhaps more importantly, these accessories helped secure her this home: an “upside-down” flat in Hackney Downs which she bought by “bribing” the sellers with handbags.
