I am five days postpartum and I feel so blessed; so full, so whole. This little guy is a dream. I can’t stop smelling him. It’s just starting to register for me that I actually did this. I freebirthed this baby on my own, at home, without outside interference or disturbances of any kind. I spent an entire year preparing for this, and now, here I am. I did it. I did it and he is here and birthing him has transformed me. Retelling the story today helped me integrate just how life changing this actually is. I have never felt more of my own power. I have never been so absolutely present in my body. I have never gone so deep inside of myself before. This birth was a healing of so much, and not a healing that came along as a result of things falling into place or time passing or God or people or processes helping me get there. It wasn’t a healing that happened at all, it was a healing I DID. I made it so. I willed it here. It wasn’t a letting go, or a surrender. It was a doing. And for someone who has spent her whole life thinking she has to learn how to surrender and soften, finding my power through my own will and might was the most incredible thing. I don’t need to soften. I am already soft. I don’t need to let go. I am already free. I am soft and free and wild and absolutely forever changed. I mean… I birthed the sun.
